Front Cover Sketch & The Finish Art
1973 Prismacolor Pencil, Airbrush & Acrylic on Board 3
Struzan based the acclaimed works of this front and back cover story on two color illustration prints from the 1700’s that we’re given to me at my confirmation in the 5th grade. The paintings depict an evil man and a good man, both at the split second of their death. Drew used his own image as the main subject in both pieces.
This remarkable pair of illustrations are the perfect example of hi bs undeniable ability with Prismacolor pencil. Because of their wax base, these pencils are one of the most difficult mediums to work in. Not recommended for the uncertain or weak of heart illustrator, because at a certain point these pencils are completely unforgiving when trying to blend colors and will actually prevent the surface from accepting more pigment, thus ceasing any further work in that area.
